Data Science, Analytics, Joggling & More

Hello, I’m Scott Jenkins.

Welcome to my blog. This is where I share my thoughts and stories on my data science career, the sport of joggling, and more. Skilled in Python and SQL, I get a lot of energy sharing my work with non-technical folks, and fellow data-enthusiasts alike.

After growing up in the Somerset countryside, I studied a pure mathematics degree at the University of Warwick. Then, seeking more mathematical applications, I moved to Leicestershire and dived into answering a breadth of data and analytics questions first at homewares retailer Dunelm, and at Specsavers.

I was learning lots, both technically, and about the power of a well-posed data question. Yet sometimes, it felt like the problems I was solving had a neater solution, more grounded in the theory of applied mathematics.

This took me to Edinburgh, for my MSc in Operational Research with Data Science. I spent an incredible year furthering my statistical, modelling and programming skills. I completed my dissertation in industry with Flexitricity, and accepted a role in the data team afterwards. Pivoting into the more technical field of flexible energy storage, I’m enjoying the fresh challenges: learning every day, and building iterative data solutions.

I’m also an enthusiastic joggler, and have applied my data skills to build the Joggling Results Archive; a streamlit web application of global joggling performances.

I am deeply energised by growing our niche community through a variety of media, and sharing this fantastic sport with a wider audience.
